Bradfield Cricket Club Sunday v The Occasional Cricket Club on Sun 18 May 2008 at 1400
Bradfield Cricket Club Won By 5 Wickets
The Sun was Out, the Sky was Blue and the Grass was very Green. Was summer here at last?? The pitch was flat and pretty hard considering the rain on Saturday. There were season debuts for Steven Bliss and Callum Crowther and a first time Bradfield Debut for Jack Parsons. Skipper won the toss again (got to do something in the game) and put the opposition in. The Occaisionals started briskly, dispatching the ball to the boundary often, it took the experience of "The Great JR" to stem the tide. Wickets fell regularly as runs were scored quickly. The final wicket falling some 40 minutes before tea with the score at 154. We used 7 bowlers on the day, wickets were shared evenly, Craig North 1, John bargent 2, Roger Bucksey 2, Jack Parsons 2, Ed Dack 2 and Guy Ashby 1. Jack Parsons and Craig North took good catches and "The Great JR" took a catch in the slip area 3rd, 4th, 5th ish - "like plucking apples".
After an early tea (Margaret North's usual perfect excellence) we starting our innings. Guy Ashby a foot taller than last year was in imperious form and scored a bright and brisk 32 before being run out. The major partnership of the innings (85) between Jack Parsons (58 NO) and Steve Bliss 41 all but completed the job.
We reached 155 with 10 overs to spare.
A good fiendly game played sportingly saw us agreeing a return fixture for next year.
